The Legacy of Flo

The Inspiration Behind Our Mission

The Flo Creed Jacobson Initiative, a 501(C) 3, was founded in 2007, to both honor and carry on the work of Flo Creed Jacobson, an extraordinary woman with a 26-year career with the Boston Police Department, who as an African American woman, broke the glass ceiling 6 times. 

The day that Flo passed away, then BPD Police Commissioner Kathleen O’Toole, made the following announcement to the entire BPD about Flo:

"Superintendent Florastine Creed-Jacobson was the ultimate professional, serving the neighborhoods of Boston and the men and the women of the BPD with great pride, loyalty, and courage in the face of great challenges. Her spirit and legacy will live on through those who knew and respected her.”

A key part of Flo’s life was her involvement with mentoring and youth. Flo mentored many police officers, including Lisa Holmes, who is currently Superintendent and Commander of the Boston Police Academy as well as the Secretary of the FCJF Board of Directors. 

Flo took special delight in working with children as a Big Sister, Horizons for Homeless Children volunteer and in community service with several other organizations.
